Religion needs spacesArchitecture as a statement of the respective religion
New churches, synagogues and mosques are more than just functional rooms of a religious community. Pastor Gregor Hohberg of the Presidium of the House of One presents the idea of the House of One in Düsseldorf under the title "Faith - Identity - Architecture".
With their often conspicuous appearance, sacred buildings shape the face of a quarter, a city. They are places where religious identities and beliefs are expressed.
The architectural language, in the way it takes up traditional or contemporary forms, can be a statement for the relationship of the respective religion to the cultural and social space. Assimilation, mutual influence or clear demarcation are possible coordinates.
At the podium event, the architect Paul Böhm (Cologne) and the religious scholar Kim de Wildt (CERES/University of Bochum) will open up further perspectives on newer sacred architecture in its respective urban context.
The evening will be moderated by Jörg Biesler (WDR).
After the event, there will be the opportunity to meet and talk.
Admission is free - Donations for the House of One always welcome!

The House of One introduces itself. Imam Osman Örs and administrative director Roland Stolte talk about the work of the foundation, the planned sacred building on Petriplatz and the history of this primeval Berlin town as part of the excursion series Ortsbekenntnis - Bekenntnisorte der Guardini-Stiftung Ortsbekenntnis – Bekenntnisorte .
The churches in the former GDR played an important role in the peaceful revolution 30 years ago. Together with the Berlin based congregation Versöhnungsgemeinde and the Berlin Forum of Religions, the Jews, Christians and Muslims of the House of One and numerous representatives of other religions commemorate these dramatic months in 1989 two days before the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9.
