Our reading series "Lesezeichen" in July: On the Meaning of Rest

Blick in Tora, Bibel und Koran, die Heiligen Bücher von Christentum, Judentum und Islam.

What do the Torah, the Bible, and the Qur’an say about life, time, prayer, light, or rest? At LESEZEICHEN – our monthly interreligious reading series – Rabbi Andreas Nachama, Pastor Marion Gardei, and Imam Kadir Sanci read together from the Holy Scriptures and engage in dialogue on central themes of the three Abrahamic religions.

These evenings offer new perspectives on one’s own understanding of faith and open the door to learning about other traditions. They invite us to come together, reflect, and share ideas.

The next LESEZEICHEN is dedicated to the following theme:

On the Meaning of Rest: Leisure and Renewal

In the Ten Commandments it says, “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest.”
Jews observe the Sabbath, Christians commemorate the resurrection with a Sunday rest, and Muslims are called in the Qur’an to turn to the next task when one is completed.
How is rest and renewal understood and taught in the three Abrahamic religions?
