TeamSpirit – different beliefs, shared action
“With the House of One, a unique place of interreligious dialogue is being created in Germany – a place where Jews, Christians and Muslims no longer merely coexist side by side, but consciously engage with one another,” said Felix Klein, the Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany and the Fight against Antisemitism, at the launch of the fundraising campaign in Berlin on Saturday, 31 January. “This project cannot move forward without the commitment of many supporters.”
Klein also announced the start of the three-month donation-matching campaign ‘Different beliefs, shared action’. Felix Klein is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bethe Foundation, which, together with the HeLe Avus Foundation, is financing the donation-matching initiative.
Asked why the HeLe Avus Foundation supports the House of One, its founder Alexander Voigt said: “Every society thrives on dialogue – and the House of One creates the necessary framework for this. People who conceive such a project, endure resistance, shape it and bring it to life embody virtue in the classical sense: an inner attitude of responsible action.”
The campaign’s motto is “TeamSpirit – different beliefs, shared action.”
BR Volleys donate 3,000 euros
A strong supporter has already stepped forward: Berlin’s Bundesliga volleyball team BR Volleys. Commenting on the club’s partnership with the House of One Foundation, Managing Director Kaweh Niroomand said: “We need to strengthen the unifying elements of our society and build bridges for intercultural and interreligious exchange. Closing divides and finding common ground will be more important than ever in the years ahead. The House of One embodies this spirit and sends a powerful message for peace. That is why this project is absolutely worth supporting for us as BR Volleys.”
On Saturday, Niroomand pledged a donation of 3,000 euros from the BR Volleys’ match bonuses.
Up to 200,000 euros possible for the House of One
Turn 1 euro into 2, 5 euros into 10, 50 euros into 100. However, individual donations are capped at 3,000 euros to ensure that as many people as possible can take part in the campaign and support the House of One.
The Bethe Foundation and the HeLe Avus Foundation are jointly providing 100,000 euros. This means that up to 200,000 euros could ultimately be raised for the House of One.
Use of donations
The House of One’s interreligious work brings people together in Berlin as well as nationally and internationally – and has been doing so long before the sacred building is completed. In 2025 alone, the education team reached nearly 6,000 people through workshops and events on religious diversity. This represents a doubling compared to the entire year of 2024. Almost half of the participants were children, teenagers and young adults from schools, educational institutions or religious communities.
Half of the donated funds will be used for this vital work in support of democracy, and the other half will go toward advancing the construction of the House of One sacred building.
Construction of the House of One in Berlin
Due to the general rise in construction costs, the projected costs for the House of One temporarily increased to almost 70 million euros. In coordination with the federal and state governments, the foundation therefore decided in early 2025 to revise the construction plans in order to reduce costs. A key objective is to complete the project within a financial framework of around 40 million euros from donations and public funding. This will allow the foundation to continue focusing its fundraising efforts on the highly sought-after educational work rather than compensating for rising construction costs.
Religion meets volleyball
The campaign was presented during a home match between the BR Volleys and FT 1844 Freiburg at Berlin’s Max-Schmeling-Halle. On that evening, the interreligious foundation was able to present its work to around 4,000 spectators – before, during and after the match.
As part of the partnership “House of One X BR Volleys”, three professional players – Kyle Dagostino, Nolan Flexen and Nehemiah Mote – had previously left a message of peace together with school students on the construction fence surrounding the House of One building site.
