Pastor Gregor Hohberg, the visionary behind the House of One project, who has been actively involved in its development for 15 years and has served as the long-time chairman of the foundation’s board, will take up a new position as pastor at St. Nicholas’ Church in Potsdam starting September 1. However, he will continue to support the interfaith work of the House of One Foundation in an advisory capacity.
"The House of One is on a good path, making this a suitable time to hand over pastoral and operational responsibilities to others," said Pastor Hohberg. "Now, I feel both excitement and nostalgia. The establishment of the House of One and the fundamental idea of interfaith dialogue that underpins it are and will remain close to my heart. I am deeply grateful for all the people I have had the privilege to meet, who have supported the project and will continue to do so." Hohberg will be honored with a farewell service on August 4 (see below).
Rabbi Andreas Nachama echoed these sentiments and expressed his pleasure that the connection will remain intact despite the transition: "We are fortunate to continue having Gregor Hohberg not only as a friend and colleague but also as an advisor by our side in the future."
Imam Kadir Sanci shared this appreciation: "I am grateful for the many times we have come together to unite people from different religions and worldviews, and I am honored to have gained a good friend in Gregor Hohberg. Even in Potsdam, he will continue to uphold the values of the House of One and promote peaceful coexistence."
Roland Stolte, Managing Director of the House of One Foundation, extended his congratulations: "We warmly congratulate Gregor Hohberg on his new role in Potsdam. And if he continues to spread the message of peaceful and open coexistence from the capital of Brandenburg, that can only be good news for interfaith dialogue." He also acknowledged the significance of the transition: "Of course, we are saddened—this is undoubtedly a turning point. But change is part of a healthy growth process and can be productive. Together, we embrace this transition, and for the great challenges that lie ahead in the continued growth of the House of One, we hope new voices and perspectives will shape our work as profoundly as Gregor Hohberg has done."
Pastor Hohberg emphasized the foundation's impact beyond Berlin’s borders: "Our work has shown us that peaceful coexistence among different faiths is not only possible but is already a reality today—one that honors and nurtures individual religious traditions without merging them."
Especially in times like these, an institution such as the planned House of One—which creates spaces for open and tolerant interaction across religious and other divides—is more important than ever. For years, this mission has been carried out through meetings, prayers, and events at various locations. "But in just a few years, when the House of One is finally built, interfaith dialogue will have a permanent home at this globally unique site in the heart of Berlin," said Pastor Hohberg.
The House of One Foundation warmly invites you to Pastor Gregor Hohberg’s farewell service on August 4, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Church on Alexanderplatz.
The service will be conducted in a spirit of liturgical hospitality with Rabbi Andreas Nachama, Imam Osman Örs, and other guests.
Following the service, all attendees are invited to a small reception.
